Where Santorini is?
Information
Santorini is a small circular archipelago formed by volcanic islands, which lies in the south of the Aegean Sea, some 200 km southeast of the Greek mainland. They form the most southerly group of the Cyclades. Santorini is completely different from the other islands in the Cyclades, and indeed from any other island in the Aegean. Its geological structure, being the collapsed mouth of an enormous volcano, gives it this savage and unique beauty. Its capital is the town of Thera, and its main port Acinios.
Emborio, Gulas with its square tower, Kamari, Pirgos and its terraced village, Mesaria with its mansions, are all noteworthy towns, as are Vozonas, Exo Gonia and Mesa Gonia, Megolojori with its tiny classic temple, Finikia, and Monolithos with its peaceful atmosphere..
The climate is temperate with mild wet winters and hot dry summers. Santorini enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate. In summer the days are long and the temperatures high; very often a refreshing breeze blows in at the end of the day, especially in the coastal zone and in the north of the country.
